Note from Chad: 👋 Hi folks, thanks for reading my newsletter! My name is Chad Sanderson, and I write about data products, contracts, modeling, and the future of data engineering and architecture. Today is a short post, but it’s all about our upcoming book on Data Contracts: “Data Contracts - Developing Production Grade Data Pipelines at Scale”
Early Release
Late last year I announced on LinkedIn that we (myself and Mark Freeman) had kicked off a partnership with O’Reilly to produce the authoritative guide on Data Contracts. The planned 350-page book would cover:
What are data contracts?
How do data contracts work?
How are data contracts implemented?
Examples and Case Studies
A look into the future of data contracts…
Since then we’ve been playing two fiddles simultaneously - building a rapidly growing early-stage startup, and writing a highly technical book on the cutting edge of Data Quality and Data Governance. (By the way, I do not recommend that particular order of events if you enjoy having a modicum of free time and keeping your sanity intact).
That being said, I am very happy to announce that the first two chapters of the book are officially available for free on the O’Reilly website. You can access it by starting a free trial on the O’Reilly learning platform, or if you already have an account. The first two chapters are ~45 pages of content and cover why the data needs contracts and the true goal of any data quality initiative. It feels awesome to finally get something real out and into people’s hands.
Also, I’m currently in the process of choosing our technical reviewers for the book. If anyone from my audience is interested please shoot me a line and I’d love to get your thoughts on an advance copy.
All the best,
-Chad
